2009 year in review

The 2009 season was an exciting and successful year for The Park baseball team. The team played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the area preparing us for a competitive OK Green schedule. The Vikings matched up with Class B State Champions East Grand Rapids, OK White champion Lowell, OK Blue champion Comstock Park, OK Red champion Hudsonville, West Catholic, Ionia, Grandville, and Sparta and were very competitive in most games. One word could sum up the whole 2009 season and that word would be "close". We were so close in so many games, losing eight one-run games throughout the season. For a second consecutive year the Vikings finished in 2nd place in the conference, beating the 1st place team twice each year. For the first time in 8 years the team brought home a District Championship; doing so in dramatic fashion. Behind 6-4 in the top of the 7th inning against a very tough, well-coached South Christian team, the Vikings scored 4 runs to claim the championship. The team was led by a special group of seniors who worked hard and represented the program with class. The leadership and experience will be greatly missed in 2010 and for years to come. Congratulations to the following players who earned post-season recognition.
