Shawn Veenstra - Head Varsity Coach

Coach Veenstra will be beginning his 4th year as the head varsity baseball coach. The team finished with a 4-25 record in 2010, bringing his overall record to 38-55. He comes with plenty of Park Pride. Veen is a 1995 graduate of Park and played on arguably one of the best teams in the history of the Vikings. He went on to play at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC where he spent one year as a red shirt. He then spent 4 years playing at Aquinas College playing for the legendary Coach Bocian. At AQ, Veen was a 4-time All-WHAC and a 2-time Honorable Mention All-American pitcher. He played for some great coaches; thanks to Coach McEwen, Coach Engels, Coach Verduin, Coach VanderKlay, Coach Rusticus, Bob Sullivan, Bob and Troy Devries, Coach Greenslate and a special thank you to Coach Bo. While playing The Sullivans Veen played in two Honkbal tournaments in the Netherlands and also played one season in Perth, Western Australia. He has been involved with coaching basketball at GRCC, football at Park and basketball at Newhall. He has been married to his wife Chris (Park grad, state champ 96') since 2003 and they have a son named Andrew and a daughter Leah.

Jason Bleyerveld - Varsity Assistant

Coach Bly is starting his 23rd year in The Park baseball program. Bly's a 1983 Park grad. He played 4 years of baseball and basketball at Park. For 16 years Bly was an assistant coach under Coach E. and is looking forward to helping Coach Veen this coming spring. In 1989 Bly was honored by the MHBCA as Assistant Coach Of The Year. Bly will be working mostly with our hitters and outfielders. Coach Bly has 2 sons, Guy 19 and Zac 16

Kevin Terbeek-Varsity Assistant

Coach Terbeek is in his 4th year as varsity assistant at The Park. He is a 2004 graduate and comes with plenty of coaching and playing experience. He was a three-year varsity player as a third baseman and outfielder, who occasionally pitched. Coached Terbeek has coached successful teams at Pinery Park as well as successful Newhall Middle School teams. He will be helping with hitters, outfielders and game management. He is currently employed as a sales representative at Kent Beverages.

Mike Slagter - Varsity Assistant

Coach Slagter is starting his 6th year as an assistant. He is a 2001 graduate of The Park who played on the 2001 State Runner-Up team. He will serve many purposes during practice and games. He will work closely with the outfielders and catchers.

Kirk Scharphorn - Varsity Assistant

Coach Scharphorn is back with the Wyoming Park baseball program after a number of years away. He was an assistant for the 2001 team who were State Runner's Up. He has also coached football and basketball in a few different programs in the area. Coach Scharp is a 1995 grad of The Park and played with Coach Veen in three sports. He was a 3 sport All-Conference player who went on to play 3 years of baseball at GVSU before a hip injury ended his collegiate career. Scharp has a very competitive nature and has been beneficial working with our hitters and first baseman. He currently works as a Zoning Administrator for Professional Code Inspectors and has been married to Jen for 6 years.

Mike Rewa - JV Head Coach

Coach Rewa is starting his 12th year as a head coach in The Park program. He is from Hopkins where he had a successful prep career. Mike went on to Aquinas and played one year before concentrating on his education degree. He currently teaches Health and Physical Education at The Park. He has coached some great teams in the past and he has the ability to get them ready for the next level. He and his wife Heather are newlyweds. Mike also has a son named Alex.

Justin Vasquez - Freshmen Head Coach

JV is starting his 3rd year as a freshman head coach. He is a 2002 grad of The Park and comes with plenty of playing success. He was one of the most important pieces to the 2001 State Runner-Up team. He was the ace of the staff who refused to lose. He went on to have a very successful swimming career at GVSU, and is now an assistant coach at Calvin College.
